Welcome to the Community of Our Lady of Sorrows

“Benedict’s way is the way of Christ, who welcomed without distinction and set before people a vision of what they might become.” (Elizabeth Canham)

You have found the Community of Our Lady of Sorrows, an ecumenical Chapter of the Order of St. Benedict.

We are Christians from many faith traditions who have found in the Rule of St. Benedict a way to deepen our relationship with Christ and live our faith more intentionally in the ordinary circumstances of everyday life. Some of us are Oblates, some are Associates, and others are still exploring where the Benedictine way may lead them.

Benedictine Life Has Been Lived in Many Ways
For centuries, men and women from many walks of life have found in the Rule of St. Benedict a way to follow Christ while living and serving in the world. Among them are:

•    St. Thomas More — lawyer and martyr
•    Elena Cornaro Piscopia — scholar, philosopher, musician, and the first woman to receive a doctorate
•    Dorothy Day — social activist
•    Jacques and Raïssa Maritain — married couple and philosophers
•    Walker Percy — novelist
•    Rumer Godden — author
•    Sir Alec Guinness — actor
•    Rose Kennedy

Their lives were very different, but each found a place for Benedictine spirituality within the life God had given them.

There's room here for you too. All are welcome.

Come and see us. Our next meeting is Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 10:00 AM Eastern Time.
