Associates Program
It sometimes happens that a person is interested in the charism of the Chapter but doesn’t feel called to Oblate life. In that case, they are welcome to become a part of the community as an Associate member.
Associates are Christians of all faith traditions who strive to extend a Benedictine presence into the many worlds in which they live. They are clergy and laypeople, married, single, divorced, and widowed, and can be found in almost any occupation, including attorneys, homemakers, teachers, business-owners, factory workers, retired persons and more. They try to live their daily lives in the intentional way of Benedictine spirituality, according to their own gifts, talents, and life circumstances.
Associates have a period of initial formation through our introductory program, the Benedictine Inquirer’s Group. This group meets monthly for five weeks, where attendees learn the basics of Benedictine spirituality. At the end of the session, you may then choose to become an Associate member or simply take what you have learned and apply it to your life as you see fit.
Associates do not make Oblation promises, but rather commit to be partners with our Oblate Chapter members, and to share the mission and charism of the Chapter. If you wish to become an Associate, you are received in a brief ceremony at our next regular meeting, in which you agree to live in the way of Benedictine spirituality as best suits your life and circumstances. You will then become a non-voting member of the Chapter.
If, at any time as an Associate, you feel called to become an Oblate, you may make application to the Chapter Director. Upon acceptance, you will be invested as a Novice and continue your training toward oblation. Click here for more information about becoming an Oblate.
