The Prayer Basket
Members of our Chapter, both Oblates and Associates, lead an enriched Christian life according to the gospel, as reflected in the Rule of St. Benedict. We spend considerable time in prayer, both privately and as a community and we welcome your prayer requests, that we may pray over them through our e-mail ministry, the Prayer Basket.
The Prayer Basket is a ministry started by the need for the confidential communication of prayer requests between church members and has been operating continuously since March 1999. It became a ministry of the Our Lady of Sorrows Chapter when the Chapter was founded in 2006 and has remained an important part of the prayer life of our Chapter and the IBC. It is delivered to all subscribers every day, Monday through Saturday (there is no edition on Sundays; major holidays have special editions that do not include requests). Subscriptions are free upon request and only distributed by e-mail. It is not published on social media by the editor.
There are a total of six editions for different faith traditions, including Protestant, Catholic and various Orthodox churches (please specify your faith tradition when subscribing). Included in all editions are readings for the day, a prayer for peace, a thought for the day and either an inspirational meditation or biography of the saint of the day, as well as new and ongoing prayer requests.
We welcome your prayer requests, which will be included in the Prayer Basket in the next regular edition. We would appreciate the first name of the person to be prayed for (a last name is not required) as well as your first name and e-mail address in case we need to contact you to get any updates on your prayer requests. If you wish your prayer request to be anonymous, please let us know and your wishes will of course be honored.
No personal information or e-mail address is ever shared with any other organization or sold to any third party and is only released as required by law, which has never happened.
