Benedictine Inquirer’s Group (BIG)

Anyone interested in learning more about Benedictine spirituality is welcome to attend the Benedictine Inquirer’s Group program. These classes introduce you to the principles of Benedictine spirituality, which can be applied to anyone’s life.

The basic course consists of five monthly sessions, presented via Zoom, with each class lasting approximately 60 minutes. Instruction is based on the book, “A Blessed Life – Benedictine Guidelines for Those Who Long for Good Days.” Attendees are encouraged to get the book, but it is not required for participation.

Those wishing to join the Chapter (either as Oblates or Associates) must attend the first five sessions of the program. When done, you may apply to be admitted as a candidate for Oblation, an Associate member or take what you have learned and apply it however you feel best for your life situation. Attending BIG sessions does not obligate you to join the Chapter.

Applying for Membership after BIG
If, after completing the initial sessions, you wish to become a member of the Chapter you need to let the Director know and complete the appropriate application.

Oblate candidates must attend one additional BIG session, in preparation for Novitiate; upon completion, the candidate will be invested as a Novice at the annual retreat in May.

Associate members will be received through a brief ceremony at the next Chapter meeting or annual retreat, whichever comes first.

Formation may seem overwhelming at first, but you are not expected to remember everything—amendment of life is a process, and this is just the beginning. You will have plenty of time to learn how to incorporate everything into your daily routine should you choose to join a Chapter as an Associate or Oblate.
